As Christians:
 |
We believe in one God, the Father almighty, |
 |
Maker of all things visible and invisible; |
 |
And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, begotten
from the Father, |
 |
Only-begotten that is, from the substance of the Father,
begotten not made, of one substance with the Father, |
 |
Through whom all things came into being, things in heaven
and things on earth; |
 |
Who because of us men and because of our salvation came
down and became incarnate, becoming man, |
 |
Suffered and rose again on the third day, |
 |
Ascended to the heavens, and will come to judge the living
and the dead; |
 |
And in the Holy Spirit. |
 |
But as for those who say, There was when he
was not, and, Before being born he was not, and, that He came into
existence out of nothing or who assert that the Son of God is of a different
hypostasis or substance, or is created, or is subject to
alteration or change - these the catholic [universal] Church anathematises.
(The Nicene Creed) |
Any individual who accepts the Nicene Creed (above) as the
definitive statement of his/her faith, is a Christian; someone who is disciple of Jesus
Christ and can proclaim that Jesus is Lord.
For too many long centuries Christians around the world
have been separated by differences in doctrine, dogma, culture and creed this is
the tragedy of the Church. We should delight in the diversity of worship and prayer within
the Church; we should revel in the rich variety the Christian faith offers the modern
world; we should feel free to visit each others churches so that our personal walk
with Jesus Christ may be enriched and broadened. Yet so often all the Christian sees are
the walls of his/her church, occasionally meeting with those of the same or similar
tradition and denominational/traditional differences are perceived as insurmountable
barriers. The Body of the Church is comprised of many different parts with many different
functions let us learn to focus on the Lord we all love, and learn to tolerate each
others faults. Only then will the Bride be ready to wear fine linen,
shining, bright (Revelation 19:18).
The
body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many,
they form one body. So it is with Christ. For we were all baptised by one Spirit into one
bodywhether Jews or Greeks, slave or freeand we were all given the one Spirit
to drink. Now the body is not made up of one part but of many. If the foot
should say, Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body, it would not
for that reason cease to be part of the body. And if the ear should say, Because I
am not an eye, I do not belong to the body, it would not for that reason cease to be
part of the body. If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If
the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? But in fact God has
arranged the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. If they
were all one part, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, but one body. 1 Corinthians 12:12-20.
